Power + Equity in Action
October 20th - 24th 2025,
Arusha, Tanzania
Join us for an experiential learning journey like no other!
A collaboration between Daraja Partners, NEID Global, and Mama Hope, this trip offers a unique opportunity to connect with a rich ecosystem of locally led organizations that are pioneering innovative solutions to systemic challenges throughout East Africa through a combination of:
Peer to peer learning with local nonprofit leaders
Site visits to extraordinary organizations
Curated sessions for learning and reflection
Panel discussions and networking nights
Plenty of opportunities for fun and connection
The trip includes 5 nights of lodging in a boutique hotel, as well as all meals, snacks, and activities throughout the week.
This five day trip is likely to be different from anything you have experienced before.
It is a chance to dive deeply into the locally led nonprofit ecosystem in Arusha Tanzania, and to learn alongside a cohort of early stage local leaders from across East Africa.
Draft Itinerary
Offered in tandem with a bootcamp for early stage nonprofit leaders, this learning journey brings together trip participants and local leaders to learn with, and from, each other.
-
We will kick off the week with a welcome breakfast alongside the cohort of local leaders participating in the nonprofit bootcamp.
Following breakfast we will head out on a nature walk, to explore our surroundings, and use this time together to set our intentions for the week ahead.
In the afternoon, we will come back together with the local leaders and split into “mentor groups” to share insights, strategize around challenges, and dive deeper into each other’s work.
-
We will start the day with a site visit to a locally led organization that is doing innovative work in the area.
In the afternoon we will join the cohort of local leaders for a workshop focused on effective strategies for engaging and managing boards. This is an opportunity to share best practices and brainstorm around common challenges.
We will end the day with a group dinner and a chance to reflect together on what we have experienced.
-
Our third day is all about building authentic connections. Participants will join local leaders and choose from three community-based activities:
Cooking Class
Nature Walk
Batik-Making Workshop
These small group activities offer opportunities for deeper connections and informal networking.
In the afternoon we will hear from a panel of African Visionary Fellows – exemplary local leaders whose organizations are having a transformational impact in their communities.
-
On our fourth day we will get out and about for an adventure activity in the morning.
In the afternoon, we will connect with our mentor groups from the local leaders cohort to offer feedback on the pitches that each organization is workshopping over the course of their 5 day bootcamp.
The day will end with a Networking Mixer with learning journey participants, the local leaders cohort, area funders, African Visionary Fellows, and other local leaders. This is a chance to build connections and have fun!
-
Our final day together will kick off with “Pitch Fest.” The local leaders cohort will present their work, showcasing their projects to trip participants, donors and partners, followed by a celebratory lunch.
We will end the week with a final activity focused on sharing key learnings from the week and thinking together about how these experiences will shape participants' own journeys going forward.
Our last dinner together will be a chance for the learning journey participants to reflect and connect as a group before continuing on your respective adventures.
